Abstract:
Briefed here in the paper are the characteristics of the oblique defect at the end of UOE welded pipe,and also analyzed are the difficulties as staying the detecting such oblique defect. Based on relevant analysis of the commonly-used NDT techniques,the method as combining the UT technique with the pipe-end magnetic particle detecting technique is employed to more effectively find out the said pipe-end oblique defect,and avoid any missed detection. Addressing the UT characteristics,two different UT inspection methods,i.e.,the conventional one and the phased array one are used to conduct an experimental research for inspection of the oblique defect. As a result an inspection technique for the oblique defect of the large-sized steel pipe is identified,i.e.,the phased array UT technique which features high detection sensitivity and high reliability.
